Harriet's famous Aunt Jean Stewart - Olympic medalist

One of our young swimmers Harriet Cottle recently visited her great Aunt Jean Hurring (née Stewart) 

Harriet's Aunt Jean was a New Zealand Swimmer who represented her country at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki where she won the bronze medal in the women's 100 metres backstroke. Jean also went to the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne.

Jean won medals in the 110 yards backstroke at the Empire Games - silver in 1950 and bronze in 1954.

Jean was born in Dunedin and married fellow swimmer Lincoln Hurring.Their son is world silver medalist swimmer Gary Hurring.
