SWIM DUNEDIN SQUAD CRITERIA 2017

Please be aware that although the following squad criteria are adhered to as often as possible, the coaches have a responsibility to exercise their own judgement when deciding on placement for the benefit of both individual swimmers and the squads as a whole.


A1 Squad  - National Age Group, National Development, Youth & National Squads

  • 700 FINA points in multiple events.
  • Attend 9-10 pool sessions and 2-3 gym sessions per week.
  • A positive attitude to all aspects of training.
  • Competing in regional finals and/or national level.

Pool Sessions: Monday to Saturday 5:00am-7:00am and Monday to Friday 3:40pm-5:30pm.

Dryland Sessions: Tuesday, Thurs and Sat 7:00am-8:15am and Monday, Wednesday and Friday 5:15pm-6:15pm.


A2 Squad - National Age Group, National Development, Youth & National Squads

  • 600 FINA points in multiple events.
  • Attend 7-8 pool sessions and 1-2 gym sessions per week.
  • A positive attitude to all aspects of training.
  • Competing in regional championship finals and/or national championship level.

Pool Sessions: Monday to Saturday 5:00am-7:00am and Monday to Friday 3:40pm-5:30pm.

Dryland Sessions: Tuesday, Thurs and Sat 7:00am-8:15am and Monday, Wednesday and Friday 5:15pm-6:15pm.


A3 Squad - National Age Group, National Development, Youth & National Squads

  • 475 (female) or 460 (male) FINA points in the 200IM and any 100m event.
  • Attend 6 pool sessions per week.
  • A positive attitude to all aspects of training.
  • Competing in regional championship finals and/or national championship level.

Pool Sessions: Monday to Saturday 5:00am-7:00am and Monday to Friday 3:40pm-5:30pm.

Dryland Sessions: Tuesday, Thurs and Sat 7:00am-8:15am and Monday, Wednesday and Friday 5:15pm-6:15pm.


B Squad - National Junior and Age Group

  • 300 FINA points in the 200IM and any other 100m event.
  • Attend 5 pool sessions per week.
  • 15 years old or under.
  • A positive attitude to all aspects of training.
  • Training towards and regularly competing in swim meets.

Pool Sessions:  Monday to Friday 5:00pm-6:15pm.

Dryland Sessions: Monday to Friday 4:15pm-5:00pm.                                


C Squad - Development

  • Attend 3-4 sessions per week.
  • 15 years old or younger.
  • Able to swim 200m of Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke and 100m of Butterfly with adequate technique.
  • Able to perform competition skills (starts, turns and finishes) for all events.
  • Enrolled with a swimming club.

Sessions (maximum one session per day):

Monday, Wednesday and Friday 7:00am-8:00am

Saturday 10:00am-11:00am

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 5:15pm-6:15pm

Tuesday 6:45-7:15pm and 5:00-6:15pm (inc. 30mins dryland).


D Squad - Development

  • Attend 2 sessions with Swim Dunedin and 1 session with a club or 3 sessions with Swim Dunedin per week.
  • 15 years old or younger.
  • Able to swim 100m of Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke and 25m of Butterfly with adequate technique.
  • Able to perform an underwater somersault both forwards and backwards and dive off the side of the pool.
  • Enrolled with a swimming club.

Pool Sessions: Monday to Friday 4:00pm-5:00pm and Saturday 9:00am-10:00am  


Surf/Tri Squad

  • 15 years old or over.
  • Able to swim continuously for 45 minutes.

Pool SessionsMonday to Friday 6:00am-7:00am (Surf Squad) or Monday to Friday 7:00am-8:00am (Tri Squad).


KAOS Squad - (Keen As Older Swimmers)

Swim Dunedin's Masters squad. Please contact admin@swimdunedin.co.nz for more information.

Pool Sessions: Tuesday and Thursday 7:30pm to 8:30pm.
